Type of Dental Veneers

There are basically 2 types of dental veneers.

  • Porcelain Veneers (Indirect Veneers) : made of porcelain veneers
  • Composite Veneers (Direct Veneers) : made of composite resin, sometimes known as dental bonding

Porcelain veneers are always fabricated at the dental laboratory. They are strong and stain resistant. Composite veneers may be done either at chairside by your dentist on the same day visit or sent to the dental laboratory. Normally, composite veneers are done as temporary veneers as composites can chip more easily then porcelain. Composites can turn yellowish in color over time and will need maintenance.

The most commonly done porcelain veneers are:

  • IPS Empress eMax veneers : most popular and globally done porcelain veneers for smile makeovers
  • Super-thin veneers : for minimal or no-prep veneers
